Super prize 21 in 21 package raised by Moray mum for Down syndrome in Scotland

A DEDICATED mum organized a 21 of 21 prize pack in March in aid of Down’s Syndrome Scotland (DSS).

The wonderful Willow.

Clare Fraser of New Elgin kicked off the fundraiser today (March 1) which will run until World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.

Over 21 local businesses have come together to create a series of fabulous gift packages.

Clare’s youngest daughter, Willow, who will be three in June, has Down syndrome.

“Honestly, I’m blown away by the kindness of our local businesses, they’ve been so supportive and have all been put under Willow’s magical spell,” Clare said.

“She exudes love and we all love her so much. Our lives are, without a doubt, much richer to have her in them.”

Clare and her husband Donald have two other daughters, Lottie (9) and Ivy (7) who adore their younger sister.

DSS is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and Clare is hoping to raise over £600.

Every day she will post a package on her Facebook page and to be in with a chance of winning, people just need to donate a minimum of £5 to DSS via the link on each post.

The most common type of Down syndrome, which occurs in about 94% of people, is trisomy 21, so called because every cell in the person’s body has an extra complete copy of chromosome 21, so there are three copies of chromosome 21 in each cell.

Clare said that while her main goal is to raise money for the good work of DSS, she also wants to raise awareness and better understand Down syndrome by getting people talking about the disease.
