“She works hard with everything she does”: Julia, star student athlete

— We all know student-athletes who also bring their A-game to other aspects of their lives.

At Patch, we’ve launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes who are making a difference in their communities. We strive to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the ranking.

This submission comes from Lindsay, who named her daughter, Juliet, from Manchester.

What sport does the star student athlete play?

Why do you think the star student athlete should be recognized?

Juliette was born with a disability called trisomy 21/Down syndrome. She is currently in her final year of high school. She always tried to find an activity in which she felt fully integrated and able to be proud of herself in her achievements. She had joined the Toms River Special Olympics swim team when she was 10 years old. She has been part of this team for 11 years. She went from being afraid to swim in the water to winning gold medals every year in her swimming competitions. His strokes are freestyle and breaststroke. Every year the Special Olympics Summer Games are held in New Jersey, where last year she received a gold medal. It becomes difficult for her to feel included in the school and to make friends sometimes. But when she’s with her swim team and competing in swim meets, she feels number 1 no matter where she shows up. During her studies, she works on her professional training in her vocational technical school, working on her independent and professional skills, so that she can be at her best in her daily life when she leaves school. She also has a job at a nursing home where residents and co-workers brag about her hard work and are a friendly face to all. Every day she works hard in everything she does and her family and friends are so proud of her in all of her daily accomplishments!

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?
