Gigi’s Playhouse Brew Ha Ha event to raise money for Down’s syndrome services

CINCINNATI (WXIX) — Gigi’s Playhouse Brew Ha Ha event to raise money for Down’s syndrome services is just weeks away.

Gigi’s Playhouse is in the start-up phase here in Cincinnati, but is open in over 50 US cities.

The non-profit organization provides free therapeutic and educational services to people with Down syndrome and their families.

Frederick Brushaber is the Co-Chair of Brew Ha Ha. Her son Freddy was born with Down syndrome.

“I have a little one, Freddy, he’s 18 months old,” Brushaber continues, “He’s adorable and he made me ‘Daddy’ and I’m so happy about that. I’d do anything for him, and I think any parent would do anything for their children.

Brushaber remembers what it was like to learn his son had a genetic condition.

“I was able to cut the ambilocal cord, it was so awesome,” Brushaber recalled. “Then we celebrated the whole first day of having Freddy, and then we had the [Down Syndrome] diagnosis and it was hard. It was, it was really tough, but he is the joy he is, and luckily he has very few health issues and it was a good race.

Bushaber says Gigi’s Playhouse has been very helpful, not only for her son, but also for him and her husband. The nonprofit helped them meet other families going through the same joys and struggles.

“It’s just a very vulnerable time where you might need to have a community around you to help you through some tough times,” says Brushaber, “and also allow you to see the bright side of it. See d other families who excel and celebrate their child and truly embrace the wonderful aspects of parenting.”

Once Gigi’s Playhouse has raised enough money, they will move on to the final stage of having a physical location.

They hope it will be the end of this year.

Brushaber encourages everyone to support the cause they care about.

“Each of us is one step away from being different, and once you’re different, you can be left out of a lot of things,” Brushaber says. “And Gigi’s Playhouse really pushes for acceptance for everyone. You would want a more tolerant world if you were one of those different people. Now is your chance to come be a part of creating a better and more tolerant world for everyone so that hopefully it’s there when you need it.
